Duty-free imports from Ukraine to Canada extended for another year

Over the four years of the regime, Ukrainian exporters have saved 9.5 million Canadian dollars — the extension will save about 1.2 million more.

The Ministry of Finance of Canada has extended the duty-free regime for Ukrainian goods until June 9, 2027. The relevant legislative changes were published in the official government newspaper Canada Gazette.

“The purpose of this decree is to support the economy of Ukraine and exports from Ukraine to Canada by extending until June 9, 2027 the abolition of import duties on all goods originating in Ukraine and imported into Canada,” the explanatory note says.

The exceptions are eggs, chicken and dairy products — their sale in Canada is regulated separately.

The duty-free regime has been in effect since June 9, 2022 and is extended annually. During this time, Ukrainian importers have saved 9.5 million Canadian dollars. The new extension is expected to save about $1.2 million.

Also, Canada imposed new sanctions on Russian shadow fleet vessels the day before.
