Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey to strengthen mine protection in the Black Sea

Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey have agreed to expand the joint operational group that deals with mine clearance in the Black Sea.

The group has included missions to protect critical infrastructure, reports “European Pravda” with reference to the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

The defense ministers of the three countries signed a corresponding agreement at the NATO summit on July 8.

Since the creation of the Mine Action Alliance in 2024, the group has neutralized more than 150 mines drifting in the Black Sea on key trade routes. Most of them were neutralized by Turkey.

At the NATO summit, the states agreed to expand their missions to include critical infrastructure, including energy, telecommunications and underwater pipelines.

Earlier, USM reported that the Ukrainian Navy will create a new brigade of mine clearance ships.
