Sulina sharply increases vessel traffic ahead of two-day break due to bad weather

About 15-16 vessels passed through the Sulina Canal over the past 24 hours, which significantly exceeds the fleet’s recent pace of passage.

At the same time, due to high waves, traffic through the canal was again suspended for about two days.

This was reported by Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.

She suggested that the increase in the number of vessels passing through could be both a coincidence and the result of more active interaction between Ukraine and Romania.

At the same time, due to worsening weather, the Sulina Canal is currently closed. According to Kononenko, during the next two days, vessels will be unable to enter or exit Sulina due to high waves.

The expert noted that yesterday’s intensive passage actually partially compensated for delays that may occur during a two-day pause.

Earlier, USM reported that Sulina may be closed for two days due to bad weather: about 70 vessels are waiting at the roadstead.
