About 80 vessels have accumulated at the Sulina roadstead

As of August 31, about 80 vessels are expected at the Sulina Canal roadstead, and after their passage, the queue may move to the exit from the canal.
This was reported by Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.
On the morning of August 31, seven vessels received pilots. Another part of the fleet is planned to be brought into the canal after the pilots are released from the vessels that go out to the open sea from the 36th mile area.
According to Kononenko, if about 10 vessels are allowed through Sulina daily, the current queue can be gradually reduced.
At the same time, all vessels must pass the canal in the opposite direction after completing the operations. This creates the risk of a new congestion at the exit.
Kononenko recalled that in 2022, about 45 ships were waiting at the same time near mile 44, and the actual anchorage stretched almost to mile 56, near the Reni roadstead.
The current situation may be more complicated due to additional formalities in Tulcea during the departure of ships.
