Reconstruction of the berth for UAH 153 million started in the port of Mariupol


At the end of September, the Authority of the Mariupol seaport together with the contractor (Mast-Bud LLC) began to reconstruct the hydrotechnical part of berth №3.

The total cost of construction, in accordance with the approved design documentation, is UAH 153 million (USD 5.7 million). Including the cost of construction and installation work (in accordance with the signed contract) – UAH 147 million (USD 5.5 million), the port authority said.

According to Serhii Gusakov, the Head of the Mariupol branch of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority”, the reconstruction of berth №3 will allow continuing the implementation of a large-scale project for the construction of a grain terminal and will increase the competitive advantages of the Mariupol port. Also, the reconstruction of the berth will increase the transshipment volumes from 600 thousand tons to 1 million tons.

The following works are envisaged under the project for the restoration of berth №3:

  • capital reconstruction of berth №3 with the extension of the border line by 2.35 m into the water area of ​​the port;
  • reconstruction of engineering networks of the berth;
  • reconstruction of crane and railway tracks.

“The start of work on the reconstruction of berth №3 of the port of Mariupol is an important step for the development and modernization of the port infrastructure and the improvement of the economic performance of the port community. The result of the implementation of this project will be a new life of the berth, the operation of which will be extended for another 50 years,” – said the Acting Chairman of the USPA Olexandr Golodnitsky.

According to him, as a result, the carrying capacity of the berth will be strengthened, the depths at the berth will be increased to 9.75 meters, which will allow to accept and handle vessels with a large deadweight, use more efficient loading equipment and technologies, optimize cargo handling conditions for cargo owners, attract new cargo flows and to increase the volume of cargo handling in the Mariupol port.

The reconstruction of berth №3 will take 16 months.

Let us remind, as USM reported earlier, at the grain terminal under construction in the SE “Mariupol Commercial Sea Port”, the installation of equipment for the unloading station for railway and motor transport is being completed.
