The EBRD is financing the construction of the third container terminal in the port of Gdansk
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide a loan of EUR 100 million for the construction of the third container terminal at DCT Gdańsk.
Thanks to the expansion of the new terminal, the total capacity of the port in Gdańsk will increase by almost 50%, writes GospodarkaMorska with reference to the bank’s statement.
“The EUR 100 million loan is part of a EUR 863.5 million financing package provided by a group of local and international lenders to the Polish company DCT Gdańsk and its parent company Baltic Hub,” the EBRD said.
In the project of the new container terminal, it is planned to build 717 meters of deep-water berth and 36 hectares of shipbuilding areas. At the first stage of investment, the terminal will be equipped with 7 energy-saving quay cranes and 20 semi-automatic railway cranes.
Gdańsk is the only deep-sea terminal port in Poland and the only port on the Baltic Sea capable of receiving the largest container vessels of the ULCV (Ultra Large Container Vessel) type up to 400 m long.
The EBRD noted that the new terminal will help increase trade in consumer goods, machinery and electronics between Europe and Asia.
Terminal #3 is expected to receive the first ships by the end of 2024, and the completion of all investments is planned for 2025. In the first stage of the expansion, DCT Gdańsk will increase the capacity by 1.5 million TEU from the current 2.9 million to 4.4 million TEU per year.
