Russia is blackmailing the world by disrupting the Grain Agreement, putting forward its own conditions

Russia will agree to extend the Black Sea Grain Agreement only if “the interests of its agricultural producers are taken into account.”

The G20 countries, during the summit held in Delhi on March 1-2, called on Russia to prolong the operation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. This was reported by TTS with reference to the BBC.

As US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reported, since the beginning of the war, russia has blocked Ukrainian goods in the Black Sea ports, mainly grain, which has caused major problems on the world market.

According to Blinken, russian federation uses the grain agreement as a pressure tool, and in recent months has systematically and purposefully violated its terms.

In turn, the russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the continuation of the agreement, which allows for the safe export of grain from Ukrainian ports, is possible only “on the condition that the interests of russian producers of agricultural products are taken into account” and “unimpeded access to world markets” of fertilizers from russian federation. Russia also insists on unblocking the export of russian nitrogen fertilizers.

The Black Sea Grain Agreement, concluded with the participation of Ukraine, the UN, Turkey and russia, should be extended this month, but moscow is putting up all kinds of obstacles for this.
