The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine denied putin’s statement about exports through the “grain corridor”
Russia does not stop trying to undermine the Black Sea Grain Initiative and reports that Ukraine allegedly does not export enough grain to Africa and Asia.
Earlier, the russian government reported that Ukraine delivered 45% of grain to European countries and only 3% to Africa via the “grain corridor”. The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko said that putin’s statistics do not correspond to reality, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that from August 1, 2022, Ukraine exported 25.1 million tons of agricultural products to 45 countries of the world through the “grain corridor”: Africa – 2.9 million tons (11.6%); Asia – 12.1 million tons (48.2%); Europe – 10.1 million tons (40.2%).
“Russia is also well aware that part of the Ukrainian grain purchased by the “full countries” of Europe is sent as a humanitarian re-export to Africa and Asia. Therefore, the real statistics of exports to the African continent are even higher than 11.6%. Not to mention the fact that almost 50% of production goes to support Asian countries,” Nikolenko emphasized.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the “grain corridor” saves millions of people in the world from malnutrition and hunger, and the international community, primarily African and Asian countries, should not allow russia to use food as a weapon.
“Ukraine will continue to faithfully comply with its obligations as one of the guarantors of global food security. We are also grateful to the UN and Turkey, as well as other partners, for their efforts in the context of extending the “grain agreement” for 120 days,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
