The explosion occurred during the liquidation of a fuel leak from the tank. The cause of the incident on “Captain Kosolapov” was called a spark from welding equipment. At the time of the explosion, there were two welders on the ship. Both men survived but were taken to hospital with serious burns to their hands and faces.
