Anti-drone system implemented in the port of Constanta

The Port of Constanta has strengthened the protection of critical infrastructure with a new anti-drone system after a drone was spotted near the passenger terminal.
The port’s press service reports this.
On May 4, an unknown drone was spotted near the passenger terminal of the Port of Constanta. After checking, the port administration and border police established that the drone belonged to foreign citizens, members of the cruise ship crew.
Romanian authorities checked the video shot by the drone and stated that it was exclusively of a tourist nature. No filming of military facilities or other sensitive infrastructure was detected.
After the incident, the ship’s captain informed the crew and passengers that the use of drones without special permission in the port’s waters was prohibited. The Romanian border police and the Romanian Navy were also officially informed about the incident.
The port said the incident did not have serious consequences due to a new anti-drone system installed as part of the program to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure.
The port explained that they abandoned full-fledged radio jamming as the main method due to the specifics of the port environment. In Constanta, vessel traffic control systems, AIS, maritime communications, GSM networks and other communication channels operate simultaneously, which can be affected by mass signal jamming.
In the future, the system is planned to be deployed in other ports managed by the Constanta Port Authority.
Earlier, a new drone detection system was installed in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda.
