Britain and Italy supported the humanitarian initiative for the countries of Africa and Asia
Italy and Great Britain supported the Ukrainian initiative to provide humanitarian aid in the form of grain supplies to African and Asian countries.
The problem of world food security and the role of Ukrainian grain in stabilizing the world food market were discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine with his colleagues Francesco Lolobrigida from Italy and Mark Stephen Spencer from Great Britain.
According to the UN, a record 345 million people in 82 countries today face an acute food problem. About 50 million people in 45 countries are on the brink of starvation.
To prevent this problem, Ukraine initiated a comprehensive campaign to provide humanitarian aid in the form of grain supplies to African and Asian countries. Its implementation depends not only on the readiness of Ukraine, but also on the work of the “grain corridor” and the support of international partners.
“This initiative is carried out together with the World Food Program and covers the following countries: Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria, Yemen, Congo, Sudan, Kenya,” said Mykola Solskyi.
He added that as of today, the USA, Poland, Japan, as well as a number of other countries have decided to participate in this program.
Italian and British ministers supported the initiative and noted that the lack of food in Africa could cause a new wave of emigration to Europe, which it may not be able to cope with.
