Ukraine and Italy strengthen cooperation in the field of seafarer training

A study visit of a Ukrainian delegation was held in Genoa, Italy, dedicated to the implementation of modern procedures for assessing the knowledge and skills of seafarers.

On April 20-24, a study visit of a Ukrainian delegation was held in Genoa, dedicated to the implementation of modern procedures for assessing the knowledge and professional skills of seafarers within the framework of the implementation of activity 1.5.1 of the Twinning project “Institutional support to the State Service of Maritime and Inland Waterway Transport and Navigation of Ukraine in the implementation of the EU acquis, norms and standards for safety at sea”.
The event was organized by the Italian Coast Guard together with the Italian Academy of Navigation.
The training program covered key practical aspects of the functioning of the seafarers’ training and certification system in Italy.
Representatives of the Shipping Administration and the Ministry of Development of Ukraine visited the Italian Shipping Academy, the San Giorgio Technical Institute of Transport and Logistics, and the A. De Rubertis Training Center of the Italian Coast Guard.
During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation got acquainted with the activities of these institutions, the planning of training courses, internships, online training and simulator training, the procedures for conducting exams, issuing certificates, as well as internal quality control and auditing.
A special focus was placed on checking the professional competence of seafarers and compliance with information security.
During a meeting with the Head of the Maritime Directorate of the Liguria Region, Commander of the Port of Genoa, Admiral Inspector Antonio Ranieri, representatives of the Ukrainian delegation noted that the implementation of the experience of Italian colleagues will allow improving the assessment system towards compliance with the highest European and world standards of transparency and efficiency.USM previously reported that the Government had appointed the head of the Shipping Administration.
