Dnipro shipping is being brought closer to EU rules: the technical assistance project received the fourth phase

The fourth phase will last until the end of 2027 and provides for digital vessel registers and recognition of the Ukrainian crew qualification system at the EU level.
The European Commission has extended the EU international technical assistance project “Promoting the transport development of the Dnipro River” for a new 18-month period. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Development.
“Over the years of cooperation with the Project, we, together with industry institutions, have made a tangible step in the development of inland waterway transport. With the expert support of the EU, key regulatory acts were developed and adopted that systematically brought Ukrainian river navigation closer to European rules – from the basic Law “On Inland Waterway Transport” to the implementation of European vessel identification, river information services and modern requirements for crew qualification,” said Andriy Kashuba, Deputy Minister for Developent of Communitis and Territories of Ukraine.
The new phase will last until the end of 2027. It provides for further harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU directives, support for the recognition at the Union level of a new crew qualification system, the creation of digital registers of vessels and qualification documents, as well as strengthening the administrative capacity of relevant bodies.
A separate direction is the launch of training on digitalization, greening and integration of river transport into multimodal logistics chains, as well as the promotion of education and careers in the field of inland waterway transport.
USM previously wrote that Romania called on the EU to maintain funding for inland waterways.
