Energy vessels: Ukraine is again negotiating with Turkey
Turkey’s floating power plants could be located in the ports of Odesa. But the Turkish side once again asks for protection.
Oleg Kiper, the head of Odesa Regional Military Administration, announced this during a press briefing.
According to him, ships with a capacity of 250 megawatts can be placed in the ports of Odesa, Pivdenne and Izmail.
“We are studying issues related to three such engagements. That is, in fact, we will cover the needs of several districts of the city. They work on both diesel fuel and gas,” says Oleh Kiper.
At the same time, the Turkish side is ready to provide such vessels only if full protection is provided against possible attacks by the Russian Federation.
“Negotiations are now underway to allow ships to enter, but we have the first question: “Give us security.” We say: “You are Turkey and there is security, you take part in all processes,” the head of Odesa Regional Military Administration told the details of the negotiations.
In addition, the region’s management is working with businesses to minimize consumption and with ports that consume 10% of total generation to install gas piston generators and be self-sufficient.
It will be recalled that similar negotiations with Turkey regarding floating power plants were held in 2022 and 2023.
So, in December 2022, the Turkish company Karpowership changed its mind to base generator vessels near Odesa. The decision was influenced by the fact that Odesk could not guarantee the safety of the ships to the company either.
