Erdogan makes concessions to the Kremlin on the issue of the Grain Agreement
The President of Turkey stated that the fate of the Grain Agreement “depends on the Western countries.” Before that, Russia demanded the lifting of some of the sanctions in exchange for the restoration of the Black Sea Initiative.
After a phone conversation with Putin on August 8, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted that the US and the EU should lift some of the sanctions against Russia in exchange for the restoration of the Grain Agreement, reports DW.
“The revival of the Grain Agreement, which allowed Ukraine to export grain through the Black Sea during the war, depends on Western countries that must fulfill their promises,” the politician said.
Erdogan added that negotiations on the restoration of the Black Sea Initiative are still ongoing. “I think that a solution can be found,” the Turkish leader said.
We will remind you that earlier Russia repeatedly blackmailed the world with the Grain Agreement, demanding to fulfill the Kremlin’s conditions. In particular, the terrorist country demanded to “resolve issues” with ship freight and insurance of Russian export shipments, to restore the operation of the Tolyatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline, and also to connect “Rossilhospbank” to the SWIFT system.
USM recently wrote that the US will continue to put pressure on the Kremlin to force the Russian Federation to return to the Grain Agreement.
