High Anti-Corruption Court maintains suspicion against former deputy head of USPA

The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court dismissed the complaint of the former deputy head of the State Enterprise “USPA”.

The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the suspicion against the former deputy head of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority”, SBU officer Oleksandr Kovaluk. This was reported by “Slovo i dilo” with reference to the court’s decision dated June 8.

Earlier, on May 26, the investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court refused to grant the motion to quash the suspicion. After that, Kovaluk’s defense filed an appeal. The Appellate Chamber upheld the decision of the court of first instance, and dismissed the defense’s appeal.

Kovaluk is one of the defendants in the criminal proceedings, which also includes former advisor to the Office of the President Artem Shylo.

According to the investigation, Shylo, officials of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” and other participants in the scheme (including Kovalyuk) ensured the purchase of power transformers at inflated prices through a private company. According to law enforcement, this caused losses to “Ukrzaliznytsia” in the amount of UAH 94.8 million.

Also, Artem Shylo was previously informed of suspicion of organizing the appropriation of funds of “Ukrzaliznytsia” during the purchase of cable products.

Earlier, USM reported that the Supreme Court of Ukraine approved the agreement regarding the Odesa Port Plant: more than UAH 77 million will be returned to the state.
