India will not buy gas from the sub-sanctioned project “Arctic LNG 2”
India’s Ministry of Oil and Gas has said it does not buy any sanctioned goods. In particular, we are talking about gas from the Russian Arctic LNG 2 project.
“We will not be buying from Arctic LNG 2. We are not buying any sanctioned goods. We do not touch the things that are heavily sanctioned,” said Secretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas Pankaj Jain.
Currently, the Arctic LNG 2 project of the Russian company Novatek is under Western sanctions due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The US has also imposed sanctions on entities and individuals for supporting Russia’s military efforts, including companies that support the development of the Arctic LNG 2 project and its LNG supply.
At the same time, the Russian Novatek stated that the information regarding the company’s participation in the creation and management of the “shadow fleet” for the Arctic LNG 2 project is allegedly untrue.
We will remind, according to Bloomberg, Russia plans to create a so-called “shadow fleet” that will export gas for the “Arctic LNG 2” project. For this, a company registered in Mumbai, India was involved.
