Metinvest: the opening of the ports of Great Odesa will allow the return of exports of metal products
“Cautious optimism” appeared in exports of metal products after the first ships with metal left Ukrainian ports.
This opinion was shared by Yulia Dankova, financial director of Metinvest, in an interview with dsnews.
“There has indeed been a cautious optimism that a full recovery of exports is possible. Our military and relevant ministry worked for a long time so that this could happen. But this is not yet a stable route, we cannot count on it,” Dankova noted.
In her opinion, the state, together with business, still needs to make great efforts to make this temporary corridor a full-fledged route.
The director also noted that the recovery of sea exports is especially important for the mining industry.
“Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the main volume of iron ore exports went by sea to China through the ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdennyi, and only 10% went to Europe. Therefore, there is no other way out but to open these ports. With the opening of the Black Sea ports, we can talk about a significant increase in the volume of transportation, but an important factor will be the availability and cost of the fleet and port facilities,” Metinvest summarized.
