Moldova will continue licensing the import of grain and oilseeds
The decision to extend the licensing of grain and oilseed imports is planned to be approved in Moldova by the end of 2024.
This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the country.
“By December 31, 2024, a project to ensure the continuity and stability of the domestic agricultural market in the context of modern challenges will be approved,” the department reported.
The statement was made after information appeared that the Moldovan authorities were delaying the adoption of this decision.
The ministry also added that they regret “the spread of false hypotheses in the public space.”
“The ministry remains the official information platform and we urge farmers to follow publications on official platforms,” the message says.
It should be noted that last week, the Moldovan agricultural association “Strength of Farmers” appealed to the government with a request to extend the licensing of grain and oilseed imports from Ukraine. The association warned of possible protests with the blocking of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine if the licensing is not extended.
As previously reported by USM, the commission for licensing the import of grain and oilseeds to Moldova ceased its work on June 24.
Recall that the grain import licensing mechanism was first introduced on October 11, 2023. The regulation was in effect during the state of emergency until December 31, 2023. Subsequently, this measure was applied on January 5, 2024 and extended on April 8 with a deadline of June 26.
