MTWTU and the Shipping Administration are preparing a joint action plan regarding abandoned crews

The Shipping Administration and the Ukrainian Maritime Trade Union Union discussed joint steps to protect the rights of seafarers and strengthen Ukraine’s position at the global level.

On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the founding of the trade union, a meeting of the Presidium of the Ukrainian Maritime Trade Union Union Central Council was held, reported the Head of the Shipping Administration Yevgenii Ignatenko.

The cooperation between the department and the trade union takes place within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year during the Ukrainian Maritime Forum.

The head of the MTWTU, Oleg Hryhoryuk, outlined priority areas of work that will contribute to the development of the maritime industry and strengthen the protection of seafarers’ rights:

• ratification by Ukraine of the MLC, 2006;

• creation of a working group to develop an action plan in the situation with abandoned crews; information campaigns to support seafarers;

• joint meetings with young people.

Earlier, USM reported that seafarers will be able to receive qualification documents in Izmail.
