Russian ship Caffa, seized in Sweden, handed over to Ukraine

The Caffa vessel (IMO:9143611), which could have been transporting stolen grain, was transferred to Ukraine as material evidence in criminal proceedings.

This was reported by the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasyuk.

On Thursday, October 22, a meeting of the delegations of Ukraine and the Kingdom of Sweden was held in the seaport of Trelleborg regarding the transfer of the Caffa vessel (IMO:9143611), which previously belonged to the Russian Federation and was arrested for violating the law of Ukraine.

During the meeting, the Caffa vessel and material evidence obtained during its search were transferred to the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.

“After its acceptance by the Ukrainian side, the vessel may be transferred for storage to representatives of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP).”

The Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution also noted that the vessel may be stored in the territory of the Kingdom of Sweden, another foreign state, or Ukraine.

As previously reported by USM, in late April a Swedish court ordered the arrest of the Caffa, and in early June agreed to its transfer to Ukraine upon request. In particular, it was noted that the vessel was used primarily to transport grain, which was likely stolen from Ukraine.
