Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard stops cooperation with the Russian Federation

The South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries has announced that it will stop participating in the construction of gas carriers for Russia.

One of South Korea’s leading shipyards, Samsung Heavy Industries, is ending cooperation with Russian Zvezda. Thus, the shipyard will no longer participate in the construction of vessels for the transportation of LNG for Russia, writes Gospodarka Morska.

Cooperation in Russian shipbuilding projects has been a source of controversy and pressure from the international community since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Even recently, shipyards in South Korea have been working on the construction of blocks and equipment for gas carriers designed to transport LNG. Currently, work on 10 units, the further assembly of which was supposed to take place in Russia, has been interrupted.

The media emphasized that this would also be a serious blow to the Russian Zvezda shipbuilding complex. At the same time, South Korea will suffer financial losses, but will improve its image.
