The first modernized UDS ship is preparing to go to Izmail

The motor ship “Captain Antipov” successfully completed sea trials after modernization at the Austrian ÖSWAG shipyard.

“The modernized vessel is being prepared for shipment from Linz, Austria to Izmail! This is the first major modernization in the history of Ukrainian Danube shipping. For more than 30 years, the company used the river fleet built during the Soviet era. All this time, the ships were only being repaired,” the UDS says.

Two new Mitsubishi main engines were installed on the vessel. Currently, representatives of the Japanese company are engaged in setting up the units.

“The new engines are more powerful, more reliable, much more economical, meet the Euro-5 environmental standard. The ship also has a new launch system. Previously, the engines were started by an archaic pneumatic system, which often failed. A group of batteries is currently installed, which greatly simplifies the start-up process,” the message says.

In particular, two new and more powerful Volvo Penta diesel generators, a new engine cooling system, pipelines, as well as an automated oil level control system and a system for monitoring and controlling the operation of the engines were installed.

The ship also has a new exhaust gas cleaning system with the addition of AdBlue reagent, thanks to which the ship can operate both on the Danube and the Rhine.

“We completely replaced everything that was outdated. “Captain Antipov” can be considered a modern vessel, because it meets the most modern European ES-TRIN standard. Vessels of many European companies, built or modernized 5-10 years ago, do not comply with ES-TRIN,” the UDS stressed.

It should be noted that UDS has started the modernization of the second vessel, but is waiting for the final position of the shareholder – the Ministry of Infrastructure.

It will be recalled that the first capital modernization of a self-propelled vessel with replacement of engines in the modern history of the UDS took place in Vienna.
