The ITF supported the resolution in support of Ukrainian seamen

Workers of ITF member organizations unanimously supported the resolution in support of transport workers of Ukraine.

This was announced by the head of the Shipping Administration, Yevhenii Ignatenko.

As part of the 46th Congress of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), the Seamen’s Conference was held in Morocco. During the Conference, trade unions had the opportunity to make speeches and present their resolutions. One of the key resolutions was a statement prepared by PRMTU, which calls for resolute support of Ukrainian transporters in the conditions of the ongoing invasion of the Russian Federation.

“Today we ask the ITF to appeal to the Ukrainian government with a request to ease the border crossing regime for male transporters entering and leaving the country,” stressed the head of the PRMTU Oleg Hrygoryuk.

The resolution emphasizes the crucial role of workers in securing global supply chains, delivering humanitarian aid and supporting Ukraine’s economy, despite the many risks they face. It condemns the large-scale destruction of transport infrastructure in Ukraine, aims to overcome the consequences of the environmental and health crises, and advocates for increased international cooperation through ITF-led missions, training programs and legal protection for seafarers and railway workers.

The resolution also calls on the Ukrainian government to officially recognize these workers as important for critical infrastructure and to ensure their safety and rights.

The resolution received public support and will form the basis for future ITF policy.

The USM previously reported that sailors have used Action Signature more than 25,000 times.
