The lack of decisions regarding the idle fleet threatens to paralyze the work of the UDS

At the meeting of the property commission of the Ministry of Reconstruction, again no decisions were made regarding the future of the UDS.

At the regular meeting of the property commission of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the further fate of the non-working fleet of the UDS was discussed.

However, according to the general director of the UDS, Dmytro Moskalenko, no decisions were made. The representatives of the department still do not have a clear vision of what to do with shipping in the long term.

UDS’s management team insists on the need to get rid of non-core assets, reduce costs and complete fleet modernization. They believe that this is the only way that competitors from Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Austria are currently following.

However, behind the “scenes” of the discussions, the word “privatization” is being heard more and more often. Although some experts support this option, there are fears that in the conditions of the river transport market crisis, Ukraine risks losing the only shipping company on the Danube through the sale of assets.

Against the background of the uncertainty of this issue, the completion of corporatization and the write-off of the old fleet remain open, which effectively paralyzes the company’s work.

Previously, USM reported that the modernization of the UDS vessel will reduce operating costs by 500,000 euros.
