The UN FAO promises to provide grain sleeves to Ukrainian farmers
The need of Ukrainian farmers for additional containers for grain storage in the front-line regions may reach 1.4 million tons.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food held a meeting with representatives of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations FAO, Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.
Acting Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi and his colleagues Denys Bashlyk and Markiyan Dmytrasevich met with representatives of the UN FAO. In particular, the head of FAO’s regional programs in Europe and Central Asia, Raimund Jelle, and the head of the FAO office in Ukraine, Pierre Vauthier, took part in the meeting.
The parties discussed the provision of assistance to small agricultural enterprises in providing generators and means for grain storage (grain sleeves). FAO representatives promised to work with donors on the request for urgent needs of Ukrainian farmers.
Taras Vysotskyi emphasized that mass shelling by Russia has led to a significant shortage of electricity in the country, the result of which is a power outage, which negatively affects the work of the agricultural sector.
“Lack of electricity and interruptions in its supply significantly complicate the work of agricultural enterprises. Also, the risks of shelling in the frontline areas affect the possibility of saving crops. The need for additional containers for storage in the front-line regions in the fall of 2024 may reach 1.4 million tons,” said the Acting Minister. the minister
He added that the total need for grain sleeves for farmers in the frontline regions is more than 7,000 units.
It will be recalled that in March the Ministry of Agrarian Policy announced that the Ukrainian representative office of the FAO was disrupting the organization of international aid.
