Three more Russian insurers seek Indian permission to insure tankers

Three Russian insurers, including a subsidiary of Sberbank of Russia, have applied to India for permission to insure marine oil cargoes.
India has already approved five insurers from Russia, which does not have insurance companies in the International Group of P&I Clubs, Reuters reports.
India’s shipping ministry is currently considering proposals from three more — Sberbank Insurance, Yugoria Insurance Group and ASTK Insurance Company.
According to one of the sources, these companies meet India’s criteria for obtaining a permit, and the ministry must give final approval for the companies’ accreditation.
The publication also noted that India is considering the proposal from Sberbank Insurance, which is under US sanctions because the country only complies with UN sanctions, and not unilateral sanctions from other countries.
