UDS is the only river carrier of Ukrainian ore for HBIS Serbia
PJSC “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” remains the only river carrier of Ukrainian ore for the Serbian metallurgical giant.
In 2024, UDS remains the only river transporter of Ukrainian ore for the European metallurgical giant HBIS Serbia, the company reported.
Last year, shipping resumed flights to the Middle Danube. Delivery of iron ore raw materials continues this year as well.
“We are constantly consulting with our partners to increase volumes. The question is not whether to transfer these amounts to the UDS. The only question is whether our client needs additional volumes,” comments Deputy General Director of UDS Vladyslav Belakh.
Last year, HBIS Serbia shut down one of the two blast furnaces with a capacity of 900,000 tons of cast iron. In January of this year, the company announced that it would restart it only after the recovery in the market.
In general, steel production in EU countries decreased by 7% last year and continues to decrease at the beginning of this year. In Serbia, the drop was 34%. “The demand for metal will increase, and the volume of supplies of raw materials to metallurgical plants will also increase,” Vladyslav Belakh notes.
As previously reported by USM, in connection with the blocking of the western border, the UDS proposed to redirect the goods transported to EU countries by trucks to river transport.
