UDS plans to load more ships in the port of Constanta
The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company plans to significantly increase the volume of loading of sea vessels in the port of Constanta (Romania).
During the BLACK SEA GRAIN & OIL — 2023 conference, Deputy General Director of PJSC “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” Vladyslav Bielakh emphasized that UDS put a record number of fleet into operation.
“In extremely difficult conditions of constant attacks on ports, the UDS continues to work stably. Steamship is doing everything possible to increase the volume of grain transportation. In particular, downtime is minimized. The capacity of our own stevedore complex has been increased,” said Vladyslav Belakh.
According to him, the single logistics service of the UDS also removes most of the risks from farmers.
“There is no demurrage. Cargo owners have the opportunity to hedge the growth of freight rates and enter into forward contracts. What’s more, UDS helps farmers find financial instruments to cover freight,” shared the deputy general director.
The biggest challenge for shipping today is strengthening the infrastructure in Constanta. Currently, UDS loads two large sea vessels on average. But under the condition of strengthening the infrastructure – attracting additional cranes, organizing new moorings – this indicator can increase to 50%.
It should be noted that the representatives of the UDS are part of the government delegation of Ukraine, which should start consultations on this issue in the coming days.
