Umerov: Ukraine and Russia held secret negotiations, in particular, regarding the grain corridor
The Minister of Defense said that Ukraine and Russia held secret negotiations throughout 2022. In particular, the parties discussed the issue of grain export.
Throughout 2022, Ukraine and Russia held negotiations. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov told The The Washington Post about this.
According to him, secret negotiations were conducted in several directions. The countries were able to agree on the departure of 400,000 people from the occupation, the exchange of prisoners, and the export of grain.
Umerov noted that the US was always aware that Ukraine was in contact with the Russian side. American officials confirmed this information to the newspaper. Answering questions about the current fate of negotiations with the Russian Federation, the minister said that “the humanitarian track is still open.”
We will remind you that in July 2022, the Black Sea Grain Agreement was concluded. For this purpose, two documents were signed: with the participation of the UN, Turkey and Ukraine, and separately – by the UN, Turkey and the Russian Federation. The agreement was extended several times, but on July 17, 2023, Russia finally withdrew from the agreement.
