Volumes of railway transportation decreased by 52% last year


According to the results of 2022, the volume of rail freight transportation in Ukraine amounted to 150.6 million tons. This is 52.1% less than in 2021.

According to the results of the first two months of 2022, volumes in all types of transportation showed positive dynamics compared to the previous year and began to decrease after the beginning of large-scale Russian military aggression, notes Rail Insider.

In absolute terms, Ukrzaliznytsia lost iron and manganese ores the most. 31.7 million tons of this cargo was transported in 2022, which is 45.9 million tons or 59.2% less than the previous year.

• Volumes of transportation of construction materials fell by 42.9 million tons or 65.2%.

• Hard coal was transported less by 20.7 million tons (-42.2%).

• Transportation of ferrous metals decreased by 12.5 million tons (-57.8%), grain and milling products – by 4.8 million tons (-14.2%).

In 2022, in terms of types of transportation, domestic transportation decreased by 49.2%, export – by 47.1%, import – by 69.5%, transit – by 76.9%.
