Romania wants to double the capacity for the transit of Ukrainian grain
Romania will increase its transit capacity for Ukrainian grain. The goal is to increase transit from 2 to 4 million tons per month.
The corresponding statement was made by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Sorin Grindianu, writes Economic Truth.
“We agreed that the export of Ukrainian grain should be accelerated in the context of the well-known attacks on the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail that occurred in recent weeks. During these meetings, we emphasized the importance of Romanian land, rail and sea transport routes to support the uninterrupted flow of exports and imports from Ukraine,” Grindianu said.
He added that from the point of view of transport on the Danube, the Sulyn canal is the only viable waterway for these transports, so it is important to optimize the carrying capacity of this route.
“It was an extremely good and fruitful meeting, which will allow us, thanks to the measures we will take, to increase the throughput of grain transit from Ukraine through Romania, so that we can reach the goal of almost 4 million tons per month, from the 2 million tons that we have now,” Grindianu emphasized.
