The Port of Constanta remains an important link for Ukrainian agricultural exports
The Romanian port of Constanta plays an important role in Ukrainian agricultural exports even after the opening of the sea corridor.
“Considering the significant number of barges that departed in November from the Ukrainian ports of Izmail and Reni, the port of Constanta in Romania continues to play an important role in Ukrainian agricultural exports. This situation persists even despite the opening of the Ukrainian sea corridor,” said logistics market analyst Maksym Kharchenko for UkrAgroConsult.
So, in November, transshipment of agricultural products for export in the port of Constanta amounted to almost 3 million tons, including 900 thousand tons of transit products, mainly from Ukraine.
Transshipment in October amounted to 3.97 million tons, which is a record for the current 2023/24 MR.
“The five main terminals transferred 44.8% of agricultural products for export, or 1.34 million tons. These terminals were used by exporters to send agricultural products to the countries of Southeast Asia: Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam,” the analyst said.
According to operational data for November, 768 barges with agricultural products on board in the volume of 1 million tons arrived in the port of Constanta. The main products were wheat — 379 thousand tons, corn — 278 thousand tons, and sunflower oil — 170 thousand tons.
As previously reported by USM, more than 11 million tons of Ukrainian grain were exported through the port of Constanta per year.
