Navy: demining trade routes in the Black Sea will take up to five months
The Naval Forces are planning a large-scale mine clearance operation in the waters of the Azov and Black Seas.
According to the planning, the demining of trade routes in the latter will last three to five months, said Dmytro Pletenchuk, the spokesman of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We are planning an operation to clear the waters of the Black and Azov seas. Currently, a headquarters has been created, and the operation itself is being planned. Based on the results of its planning, we can note that the demining of the maritime communication routes will last three to five months,” the spokesman said.
According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, the global demining operation may last for several years, because even now they are facing samples of weapons from the First and Second World Wars.
Special drones are used for demining the sea, the spokesman of the Navy said.
“We are in a constant dialogue with our foreign partners on this issue and work in this direction continues constantly – as well as training, as well as gaining experience, as well as the process itself,” said Pletenchuk.
