The IMO calls for refraining from entering into ports under occupation
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the resolution “Impact of the Russian armed invasion of Ukraine on international shipping”.
The resolution was adopted on December 4, 2023. The document emphasizes the importance of maintaining the safety of sailors and vessels operating in the Black Sea.
In particular, the IMO will help Ukraine in the implementation of the organization’s tools during the operation of the maritime corridor.
Journalist Kateryna Yaresko also noted that the IMO resolution calls on states to inform their ships, shipowners, operators and insurance brokers about the need to refrain from visiting closed seaports in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
The organization insists on the need to investigate such violations. This issue is monitored by the IMO Secretary General, and the committees are involved in the review.
Earlier, USM reported that Turkey promised to apply sanctions against Russian vessels heading from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
