Russian nuclear icebreaker collides with cargo ship

The Russian nuclear icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy” suffered significant hull damage as a result of a collision with a cargo ship while operating on the Northern Sea Route.

The gCaptain publication also reported some details of the collision. According to preliminary data, the icebreaker could have collided with the Yamal Krechet ship, which was heading to the Gulf of Ob in the Russian Federation. The condition of the cargo ship is currently unknown.

The photo shows the damaged port side of the icebreaker near its bow.

The journalists also note that the icebreaker did not receive any damage that would interfere with its operation and “continues to operate normally.”

Recall that Russia currently has eight nuclear icebreakers, and “50 Let Pobedy” was the largest of them until 2020, when the Arktika-type icebreakers were put into operation.

Earlier it also became known that the Russian tanker that suffered an accident in the Kerch Strait is being disposed of.
