Canada imposes sanctions against 109 vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet”

Canada has expanded sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine. Restrictions were imposed on 76 Russians and Russian entities, as well as 109 vessels.
This was reported in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau following his visit to Ukraine.
“To continue pressure on Russia, the Prime Minister announced the introduction of sanctions against 76 individuals and entities that support the Kremlin’s military-industrial base, participate in illegal deportations and forced displacement of Ukrainian children, or facilitate the Kremlin’s information operations. Sanctions have also been imposed against senior Russian government officials and oligarchs who support the Putin regime,” Trudeau said.
It is noted that Canada is also taking measures against Russia’s shadow fleet, introducing sanctions against 109 vessels.
As a reminder, on February 24, the European Union adopted its 16th package of sanctions against Russia on the third anniversary of its invasion of Ukraine. The new restrictions include a ban on the import of Russian aluminum, as well as sanctions against 73 vessels, 53 individuals, and 13 banks.
