Ukrainian ports almost fulfilled annual plan, but there is a need to strengthen security

A working meeting was held in the port of Pivdennyi on the operation of the port industry in the context of the energy crisis.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Seaports Authority.

During the meeting, the focus was on key challenges for seaports – how to ensure uninterrupted operation in conditions of unstable energy supply, how backup power sources are used, and what alternative solutions are already operating in ports and branches on the ground.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Development Oleksiy Kuleba, the management of the USPA, representatives of branches and state stevedores.

Oleksiy Kuleba emphasized that the energy sustainability of the port infrastructure remains one of the priorities.

“Backup power sources are being introduced, cogeneration units are being installed, critical infrastructure is being modernized. Ports are adapting to work in conditions of energy restrictions and combined attacks – all in order to ensure the continuity of export operations,” the minister added.

Acting Head of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority” Artem Lytvynov emphasized the results of the port industry, despite the difficult security situation.

“As of today, the sea ports have fulfilled the annual plan by more than 92%. This is the result of the daily work of people on the ground, despite the long air raids, which sometimes last up to 8 hours, constant shelling and threats. The ports continue to work and perform key tasks for the country’s economy,” the official said.

Separately, during the meeting, they discussed further strengthening the protection of sea ports in the face of constant attacks from the enemy. Work to improve the security of port infrastructure continues in cooperation with the military.

Earlier, USM reported that additional measures are being implemented in ports to protect infrastructure and vessels.
