Sanctioned tanker hit in Black Sea likely lost propulsion, Navy says

The operation was aimed at countering the export of Russian oil in circumvention of international sanctions.

The Cameroon-flagged tanker Marquise, which was hit by Ukrainian naval drones, probably did not sink, but lost its course. This was stated by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, on television.

“The ship did not sink, but most likely lost its course. We have to wait until it appears in one of the ports. There was no information about the victims,” Pletenchuk said.

Pletenchuk stressed that implementing such an operation was difficult, since Russian forces constantly use aviation to combat naval drones, especially in the eastern part of the Black Sea.

“This is quite a difficult task, given that the Russians constantly use aviation to combat drones. This happens practically 24/7,” the spokesman for the Navy said.

At the same time, according to him, the strike did not cause serious consequences for the environment.

Earlier it was reported that a unit of the Ukrainian Navy used two unmanned sea kamikaze boats to destroy the Marquise vessel, which belongs to the sanctions logistics of Russian oil.
