The Russian Navy has gone the way of tank tuning: ships are covered with “barbecue grills”

The Russian military hopes that homemade metal structures will help protect ships from attacks by Ukrainian drones.
The Russian military has begun installing so-called “barbecues” on patrol ships to protect against attack drones. This was announced on the air of the telethon by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmitry Pletenchuk.
According to him, such structures first appeared en masse in 2014 on armored vehicles as protection against hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, and now they are being adapted to combat FPV drones.
Pletenchuk noted that the appearance of such structures indicates an increase in the threat to the Russian fleet from Ukrainian drones.
“This only indicates that the level of danger has increased, and they understand this perfectly well. This indicates that what gets there, gets there with precision,” the Navy spokesman added.
According to Pletenchuk, recently the Russians have been increasingly using small vessels — in particular, anti-sabotage boats — to perform tasks at sea, as larger ships regularly become targets of attacks.
“Even if it is protected, it is only the upper projection… But as for strikes from the water, for example, if surface drones are used for this, then in principle it will not help at all,” Pletenchuk noted.
He also added that full protection of the lower part of the ship’s hull would be technically difficult and would negatively affect their seaworthiness.
Recently, USM wrote that Russia is hiding old ships in Sevastopol after attacks on the fleet.
