Russian attacks caused over $1.5 billion in losses to Ukrainian ports

Direct losses to Ukraine’s port infrastructure due to Russian attacks exceeded $1.5 billion.

This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine, Delo reports.

According to him, the ports of Great Odesa remain a key channel for Ukrainian agricultural exports. About 90% of agricultural products that Ukraine supplies to foreign markets pass through them.

Marchuk noted that the Russian Federation continues to purposefully attack port infrastructure. In 2025, about 150 attacks were carried out on Ukrainian ports, while in the first half of 2026 alone, their number has already exceeded 180.

In this regard, the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council supported the appeal of the owners of port operators to the government to introduce additional financial support mechanisms. This includes, in particular, expanding insurance programs and the possibility of subsidizing losses caused by military actions.Similar appeals are also being made to international donors. The Agrarian Council emphasizes that damage to port infrastructure affects not only the Ukrainian economy, but also global food security, as importers may not receive Ukrainian grain on time.

In addition, attacks on ports increase risks for shipping. This leads to an increase in freight rates and insurance payments, which puts pressure on domestic purchase prices and reduces the income of Ukrainian agricultural producers.

According to Agrarian Council estimates, in the new season, Ukraine can export from 40 to 50 million tons of grain. At the same time, the final volumes will depend on the harvest and the stability of export logistics.

Marchuk also noted that Ukraine is entering the new season with larger transitional grain residues. If last year they amounted to less than 7 million tons, now they exceed 9 million tons. The accumulation of residues is partly related to attacks on ports and difficulties with export logistics.

USM previously reported that Ukraine should increase the share of processed products in agricultural exports.
