Russia accused Romania of providing military support to Ukraine through the port of Giurgiuleşti

Russia has accused Romania of using the Moldovan port of Giurgiuleşti to supply cargo to Ukraine, in particular for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Romanian Foreign Ministry called these statements Russian propaganda.

This was reported by the Romanian publication DCNews.

Yuriy Pilipson, Director of the Second European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that Romania is participating in direct military and logistical support for Ukraine.

According to him, after the Romanian side acquired its operator, the port of Giurgiuleşti allegedly turned into a transit hub for the supply of various cargoes to Ukraine.

Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Cernea responded to the statement. He called Moscow’s position part of a “war” and Russian propaganda and said that Russia is trying to maintain control over neighboring countries.

At the end of 2025, the EBRD signed an agreement to sell 100% of the shares of ICS Danube Logistics, the operator of the International Free Port of Giurgiuleşti, to the Romanian National Authority of Sea Ports of Constanta.

In February 2026, the deal was approved by the shareholders of the Port of Constanta. The Romanian side announced plans to invest in expanding Giurgiuleşti’s capacity, modernizing the infrastructure and strengthening the port’s role in the logistics of the Black Sea and the Danube.

Earlier, Moldova resumed container rail transportation through the port of Giurgiuleşti.
