Finland will help to transport Ukrainian grain to African countries
Finland joins the World Food Program (WFP) in transporting grain from Ukraine to the Somali Peninsula.
The world food situation has worsened significantly after the russian invasion of Ukraine and the blockade of our ports. As a result of the war, up to 222 million people will suffer from acute food shortages in 53 different countries, WFP experts report.
The situation is particularly difficult on the Somali Peninsula, which is suffering from a record drought. According to average estimates, more than 20 million inhabitants of the Horn of Africa are currently in need of food aid.
In the near future, Finland will allocate 15.7 million euros of humanitarian aid to the countries of the region. Of these, almost 7 million euros will go to support the work of WFP, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland reports.
“It is critically important that the shipment of grain from Ukraine to Northeast Africa can continue. We support the World Food Program in this,” emphasized the Minister of Development and Foreign Trade of Finland Wille Skinnari.
