Ukrainians presented the prototype of the Kronos submarine at a defense exhibition in the UAE
The team from Ukraine first demonstrated the prototype of their stealth submarine “Kronos” at the international defense exhibition IDEX-2023 in the UAE.
The international defense exhibition IDEX-2023 started on Monday, February 20, in the UAE (Abu Dhabi). On it, the company Highland Systems, founded by a Ukrainian development team, presented for the first time a prototype of its stealth submarine Kronos” with a futuristic design, writes Defense UA.
The submarine can be used both for commercial and rescue tasks, and for full-fledged combat operations.
For combat operations, the submarine was equipped with six Black Scorpion torpedoes from the Italian company Leonardo – three on each side of the submarine. This 1.1-meter-long 127-mm torpedo weighs up to 20 kg and can hit targets at a distance of up to 3 km.
“Kronos” is also capable of carrying up to 10 paratroopers, who can exit it directly underwater. At the same time, the crew consists of one captain-operator.
In addition, the boat can be controlled remotely, and the control range in closed channels is more than 250 km. Thus, “Kronos” can be used primarily for transportation of more than 3 tons of cargo.
The submarine is covered with a special composite material on the top and inside, which performs the function of heat preservation, and also makes it difficult for the submarine to be detected by enemy sonars.
The boat can stay underwater for 54 hours in hybrid mode, 36 hours on battery power, and 18 hours on generator mode. Under water, it can develop a speed of 50 km/h.
