About 10 hidden yachts and ships were found with the oligarch Abramovich
Under-sanctioned russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has a much larger fleet than previously thought — 16 ships. About 10 of them became known recently.
At least one of Abramovich’s previously unregistered yachts is now located in France, which allows the country’s authorities to confiscate it in the near future, Forbes reports, citing materials from the Center for the Investigation of Corruption and Organized Crime (OCCRP).
The leak of documents helped reveal several previously unregistered assets of the oligarch. According to the data, Abramovich owns at least 10 more yachts and vessels through offshore companies and trusts, in addition to 6 known yachts worth at least $1 billion.
Last week, the British edition of The Guardian gained access to the documents of the Cypriot company MeritServus, which provides corporate services to russian oligarchs. According to documents reviewed by OCCRP, Abramovich transferred ownership of 10 offshore trusts with billions of dollars in assets, including a trust that owns his yachts and private jets, to his seven children in early February 2022, just three weeks before the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine.
Forbes has identified 10 vessels owned by Abramovich that were not previously attributed to him. Thus, from now on, the total number of the oligarch’s “fleet” is 16 units. The eight vessels are auxiliary and, according to the leaked documents, “used to support the operations” of the megayacht Eclipse, a $427 million, 164-meter vessel that Abramovich built in 2010. Eclipse is currently moored in the Turkish port of Bodrum along with three other Abramovich yachts — the $475 million 140-meter Solaris, the $38 million 55-meter Halo, and the $20 million 67-meter Garcon. All of them stand not far from each other, along the western coast of the Mediterranean Sea of Turkey.
In addition to the 8 auxiliary vessels, the documents also show that Abramovich owns a 12-meter Bluegame motor yacht named Umbra A, valued at approximately $1 million in the 2016 annual report. The most valuable of the previously unreported yachts is the 24-meter Kewpie , which is worth about $3 million, according to VesselsValue experts. The vessel is registered in Bermuda and is currently located in France, where it has been moored since the beginning of November.
After the data leak, the last vessel may be confiscated by the French authorities. But Abramovich’s yachts in Turkey are safe because the country did not impose sanctions against r ussian oligarchs.
