Germany has increased imports of Ukrainian grain since the beginning of the full-scale war
Germany announced a significant increase in grain imports from Ukraine after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
The German federal government has confirmed a significant increase in grain imports from Ukraine from February 24, 2022, reports Wochenblatt.
The government assured that the increase in supplies did not affect the German market negatively.
The import of Ukrainian fodder and food grain to Germany reached its peak, amounting to about 741 thousand tons, and for the first half of 2024, the volume of deliveries amounted to about 490 thousand tons.
The main share of imports is corn, of which 447,000 tons arrived in Germany in the first six months of this year, compared to 619,000 tons in 2023. The volume of wheat imports also changed: in 2023, almost 106,000 tons were imported, while in 2024, this indicator decreased to 16,500 tons.
The German government also noted that all imported food products and feed from third countries, in particular from Ukraine, undergo inspections in accordance with European safety standards. According to official data, no violations of EU requirements were detected during inspections of Ukrainian grain.
We will remind, earlier the President of Poland Andrzej Duda stated that agriculture remains a “problematic issue” in the context of Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
“Ukrainian agriculture is so powerful that it can even endanger the agriculture of the entire European Union,” he emphasized.
