Moldova may resume licensing of grain imports from Ukraine

The government of Moldova may re-introduce the licensing of import of grain and oil crops from Ukraine.

The relevant bill was registered by the head of the parliamentary economic commission, Oleksandr Trubka, Newsmaker reports.

The document provides that individuals or legal entities engaged in the production of oils, flour milling, animal husbandry and production of food products for animals will be able to obtain an import license.

According to the draft law, licensing will be valid until the end of 2024 with the possibility of extension for another year.

The explanatory note states that it is difficult for Moldovan farmers to compete in prices in the conditions of a high level of grain and sunflower production in Ukraine.

The draft law should prevent unlimited imports of grain and sunflowers from Ukraine, otherwise domestic farmers will suffer losses and risk not being able to pay their loans.

We will remind you that Moldova canceled the licensing of imports of grain and oilseeds. Licensing could be carried out for no more than 3 months. This term could be extended only once – for a maximum of 3 months.

After that, agrarians in Moldova began to demand the return of grain import licensing.
