MSC and the disruption of the container service: Customs denies the allegations

The State Customs stated that none of the containers were detained by customs, and the registration of all export cargoes was completed on time.

This is reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

We will remind, the other day the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine (AMEU) announced the disruption of the container service to the port of Odesa. According to them, the operator MSC canceled the first call due to cargo checks and delays in customs clearance.

The customs stated that the mentioned containers were not submitted for customs clearance, therefore there can be no checks or delays.

“As for other containers, at the moment, the processing of all export cargo declarations submitted to customs has been completed within the deadline set by the law and without objections,” the message says.

At the same time, the agency added that there are currently a significant number of containers in the ports of Great Odesa that have not been declared for customs clearance.

“Among all the containers, documents have been submitted to the customs authority for only the seventh part,” the State Customs Service noted.

A meeting was also held regarding problematic issues. Representatives of the European Business Association (EBA), the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine (AMEU), container lines and ship operators were invited to the dialogue.

“During the discussion, it became clear that the concerns of business, and therefore the delay in submitting containers for customs clearance, are mostly caused by the control and law enforcement agencies working out the facts of illegal export of agricultural products and cases of seizure of containers with such products,” the state service emphasized.

We will remind you that in May 2024, the heads of tax and customs departments were exposed in Odesa. Officials for bribes guaranteed entrepreneurs not to create artificial obstacles during customs clearance of goods.
