Russian attack on the port of Chornomorsk: oil pollution reaches 700 meters along the coast

As a result of Russian shelling and the destruction of the tank, sunflower oil has entered the Black Sea.

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District.

On Wednesday, April 29, inspectors conducted an inspection of the water area and coast of the Black Sea within the city of Chornomorsk.

The environmental inspectorate noted that the basis for this was information about pollution associated with the destruction of an oil tank as a result of the attack on April 26.

“During a visual inspection, oily yellow spots were found on the surface of the water. The pollution extends along the coastline for approximately 700 meters, in places it goes into the sea at a distance of one to fifteen meters,” the department said.

Representatives of the city council and the Black Sea branch of the State Enterprise “Seaports Administration of Ukraine” are also working at the site. Measures are being taken to eliminate the consequences and prevent further spread of pollution.

As a reminder, on April 26, shelling of the city damaged the infrastructure of the Chornomorsk commercial seaport. A tank with 6,000 tons of sunflower oil was also destroyed during the fire.
