Russian submarine is likely to test nuclear missiles
NATO warned its allies about the departure of the Belgorod nuclear submarine from the russian Navy base. The ship carries the Poseidon nuclear torpedo.
According to preliminary information, a nuclear-powered submarine went to the Arctic to conduct the first-ever test of the new super-powerful Poseidon torpedo, reports La Repubblica.
The publication notes that, according to American intelligence, a russian submarine disappeared from the Navy base to conduct tests in the Kara Sea area. The “Poseidon” torpedo is known under the code name “Status-6”.
This weapon “will force NATO allies to rethink the planning concept of the Naval Forces of the Alliance countries,” according to military experts.
The USA created a network of satellites with infrared sensors precisely to detect the departure of russian missiles: the ignition of the engines causes intense heat. Instead, the satellites cannot see what is happening in the depths of the sea: the torpedo is designed in such a way that it emits very little heat and moves silently at a speed of more than one hundred kilometers per hour.
Presumably, some tests were carried out back in 2015, but there were never any torpedo launches from Belgorod.
